Things You Will Need
In order to make your own vinegar volcano, you will need -
- A large sheet of card.
- A pair of scissors.
- Some tape.
- A small funnel.
- Small plastic bottles (2 Nos.)
- Vinegar
- Food coloring
- Bicarbonate of soda
- Washing liquid
- A large plate
- One pencil.
- A tablespoon
- One teaspoon.
Step 1
Draw a shape as shown below on a large sheet of card. Be sure that the shape is big enough such that it fits around the bottle.
Step 2
Cut the shape out from the large sheet of paper and bend it into a cone shape. Using the tape, you can make sure that the shape stays as it is.
Step 3
Fill one of the bottles one-third with vinegar. You can use the funnel to fill the vinegar into the bottle. After that, add few drops of food coloring and one tablespoon of washing liquid.
Step 4
Keep the second bottle on top of a plate. Into this, add around 3 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda using the funnel. Set the cone shape on top of this bottle. While placing the cone shape, make sure that the opening of the cone shape is on level with the opening of the bottle.
Step 5
Using the funnel, drop in the vinegar and washing liquid mixture into the second bottle. Try removing the funnel. What do you see? Your own bubbling vinegar volcano !

The Science Behind This Particular Vinegar Volcano
The food coloring is added in order to create a unique coloring for the volcano lava. You can always use brown coloring but you can even try experimenting with different colors.
The bicarbonate of soda and vinegar mix together to form carbon dioxide gas. This is what makes the mixture foam and expand out from the bottle.
